Hmmmmmm, what would the entire Ursonate look like translated?-Ed
November 30
Ed,
sorry i didn't write back earlier, i have semi-abandoned that email
address...
thanks for the link to your site. i see i missed your film playing
in
chicago. damn, and that's where i live too. hope to see it sometime.
anyways, i love the experiments. would love to see a film about it.
so
many possibilities.
i will try to post some other experiments i did on the web and send
you a link.
one involved using microsoft word to replace letters until it became
unreadable, then using spelling check to construct something.
one deconstructed into all ... .. .. ... ... .. .. .
.
also experimented with playing a data cd in an audio player, plugging
it into the line-in in my sound card, recording it and then slowing
it
down exponentially in a series of recordings. interesting thing here
is that when i did a low-fi version for the web you could hear 'beeps'
and 'tones' at the slowest speed i made, yet these were inaudible in
the hi-fi version.
one other experiment, ongoing, is that when working on a project such
as a design proposal or publication, i take all the left-over and
aborted printouts with all the hand-written corrections on them and
printer errors and format mistakes, and make a binder out of them.
inevitably this is more interesting than the final actual 'product'
produced.
i also have a binder of printer test sheets which is real interesting.
i am also interested in doing audio/video extractions around the city
and putting them together based on their data characteristics. i.e.
take the peaks and lows and construct one film. then take the
leftovers and construct another. i would like to do one based solely
on the audio characteristics (video just follows and lands where it
may) and then one based just on the video (audio follows and lands
where it may) of course, i have no idea how to even begin on a project
like that.
this ended up being a long letter.
well, anyway, i will keep an eye on your website. let me know if you
come to chicago or you put out another film.
