My Idea was to bring an Imax Sandde (Stereoscopic animation
drawing device) out of storage to some Vancouver institution to be used
as a great big 3D animation demo machine along with a 3D product that could
be sold in all Imax 3D theatres. We thought that a 3D drawing product
would be a perfect fit with MainFrame Entertainment who were creating
a Gulliver's Travels 3D Imax Movie. Unfortunately, the 3D
Imax project was stalled in development. Meetings with Pacific
Place Imax, the BCDI, phone call with Paul Kroiter all
proved unproductive as well. The over all feeling in BC seemed to
match the headlines: "B.C, laying off 11,700 workers" there was
pessimism for anything new without money attached to it. Marv
Newland for example no longer drives Rocketship International but is
relegated to teaching animation at the Vancouver Film School. The
Sandde Animation Machine along with the 3D animation product would have
to be pitched at another time or place. So I worked with another
two filmmakers removing wall paper. Rena Del Pieve Gobi suggested
that there might be something at the Quickdraw Animation Society in Calgary. |
